P.G Accommodation, Greater Noida

The PG accommodation is conceived as a contemporary, climate-responsive living environment that balances privacy, daylight, ventilation, visual connectivity, and efficient shared living. The site presents a significant constraint, with access and frontage available only from the front road, limiting the possibility of creating open spaces and natural ventilation along the sides of the building.

In response to this limitation, the design introduces a large central open area within the building, extending vertically from the basement to the top floor and functioning as a four-storey internal foyer and green corridor. Rather than leaving peripheral spaces around the building, the built mass is organized around this central area, creating an internal breathing space that brings daylight, air movement, greenery, and visual connectivity deep into the building. The enlarged central space is further articulated through carefully positioned cut-outs and openings at each level, establishing a continuous visual and environmental connection between the floors.

The green corridor forms the heart of the building, transforming an otherwise enclosed circulation zone into a naturally lit and ventilated communal space. The vertical void allows daylight to penetrate deeper into the building while facilitating air movement and creating visual connections between different floors. Balconies and circulation spaces overlooking this central foyer strengthen the sense of community and make the internal environment more open and connected.

Along the front façade, strategically positioned balconies, façade openings, and perforated jali screens create a layered transition between the private rooms and the street. The jali screens provide filtered views, privacy, and controlled daylight while also creating discreet spaces for functional activities such as clothes drying. This helps maintain a clean and uncluttered façade while allowing everyday functions to be integrated naturally into the architectural language.

The accommodation is planned with three-seater rooms and two four-seater rooms at the front, providing an efficient yet comfortable living arrangement for residents. Within the rooms, the wash basin is designed as a commonly accessible facility, while the bathing and WC areas are provided separately. This arrangement allows multiple users to access different sanitary facilities simultaneously, improving functionality and reducing congestion during peak-use periods.

The building also incorporates shared amenities that encourage interaction and support a balanced lifestyle. A dedicated gymnasium provides residents with an accessible space for fitness, recreation, and leisure within the accommodation itself.

Overall, the project transforms the limitation of a single-frontage, constrained urban site into an opportunity to create a strong internal spatial environment. The central four-storey green foyer, strategically placed cut-outs, balconies, jali screens, natural daylight, ventilation, and shared amenities collectively create a PG accommodation that is open yet private, naturally responsive yet efficient, and functional while fostering a sense of community.
