Quality Inn Jungle Resort in Ramnagar, Uttarakhand, was designed as a nature-oriented hospitality retreat responding to its forest setting and the character of the Himalayan foothills. Completed in 1988, the project explored a low-rise architectural language that connects guest accommodation, verandahs, landscape and outdoor spaces.
The design uses gently curving forms, stepped volumes and sloping roofs to create an architecture that responds to the site's natural setting. Rather than creating a single dominant hotel mass, the architectural composition seeks a closer relationship between built form and landscape.
Wide verandahs, shaded sit-outs and generous openings help create a gradual transition between indoor and outdoor spaces. The building's roof forms, shaded areas, landscape and openings were considered as part of the environmental response to the local climate.
Native vegetation, creepers and landscaped areas are integrated with the built form to soften the architecture and strengthen the relationship between the resort and its natural surroundings.
The material palette includes locally sourced stone, exposed brick, timber and earthy finishes, giving the resort a contextual character suited to its forest setting.
Completed in 1988, the project represents an early exploration by Pande & Associates of hospitality architecture that integrates architecture, landscape, regional character and climate-responsive design.
